DRAMA GIRLS follows three friends navigating ambition, jealousy, and survival in the world of theatre. Set against the backdrop of student life and the messy early years of trying to “make it,” the play explores what happens when friendship collides with competition, and when passion for the stage meets the reality of rent, rejection, and resilience.

The play was created in a time of creative crisis: Three young graduates heading into a job market crash, each wondering where their creative careers are heading.

The writer of the show Tilly Woof talks more about her process,

at a cafe, we spoke about the insane behaviour we all faced as trainee actors, the cattiness, the horrible rumours, the breakdowns, and so we thought we would make a play about it all. Even though writing this play was a coping mechanism, I found the experience of doing so really exciting and enjoyed recounting specific memories of all the ups and downs… Writing this show was exhilarating, cathartic and emotional. It gave me an ever-stronger love for the industry that I am proud to call home. No matter how ridiculous and, at times, dysfunctional.”

    ★★★★

    The Derek Awards

  • “...I loved the pink lighting used for the switch in scenes and appreciated the song choices, which were largely all female bands or singers. I thought that was a nice touch and reaffirmed the plays message of three women following a somewhat impossible and unstable dream.”

    A Yough(ish) Perspective

  • "...these three young performers parody with fun and flair, particularly sharply in physical comedy routines..."
